Smash those metal motherfuckers into junk! 40yrs ago today, Kyle Reese was sent back in time from 2029, tasked to protect waitress Sarah Connor residing in Los Angeles. He intercepts a murderous cyborg terminator (also from 2029) who has targeted Sarah for assassination -- specifically to kill her unborn son, John, who will grow up to be the resistance leader of the last surviving remnants of mankind in a post-apocalyptic wasteland; a byproduct of the holocaust on humanity known as Judgement Day which commenced on Aug 29, 1997. A worldwide computer network operating system known as Skynet had rapidly advanced in artificial intelligence and had grown so frighteningly sentient, that it decided every last person on earth was a threat to its existence and had to be exterminated in an ensuing war against machines. In the course of Reese guarding Sarah, both have an intimate moment to which she will have the most important sex of her life (giving the famous phrase "come with me if you want to live" a new meaning) that she can't possibly fathom which will have far-reaching & forever-changing implications for the future. Reese is killed in fighting the relentless terminator and Sarah emerges victorious against the ruthless robot. And also pregnant carrying Reese's child -- who is John, the very same from the future who sent back this volunteer on a suicide mission to ensure his own birth, making Reese having been the father all along (here in a time that beforehand, he had previously never existed). This twist remains a WTF loop that continues to stir debate but is still a clever sci-fi hypothetical that was a unique interpretation for its time.
